SUMMARY:2011 Chamber U: June 22 - Neighborhood Revitalization & Economic Development
DESCRIPTION:The Transformation of Rock Street: A Neighborhood's Journey\n\n \n\n	In recent years\, Durham has begun to see a resurgence of investment activity and a renewed interest in urban core neighborhoods as walkable\, sustainable living options. However\, the economic crisis and acceleration of aging housing stock within the city limits has led to a teardown epidemic. This presentation will introduce an innovative model that is being used to address the stabilization of a historic Southwest Central neighborhood in an effort to bring continued economic development to the area and affordable housing options to working families. Builders of Hope uses a patent-pending process of home recycling that incorporates economic benefits\, environmental stewardship and social solutions. This case study will be used as an example of how city/community partnerships and funding can be leveraged in the successful redevelopment of truly mixed use and mixed income neighborhoods in less than ideal economic conditions.\n\n \n\n	Presentation by Lindsay Locke and Liza Martina with Builders of Hope\n\n \n\n Builder's of Hope
