SUMMARY:Inter-City Visit - 2025
DESCRIPTION:Having held informative visits to Indianapolis in September 2023 and Minneapolis-St. Paul in September 2024\, the Durham Chamber will lead an effort to visit Austin to learn from peers from Tuesday\, November 11 to Friday\, November 14!\n\n\nWhat: Durham Inter-City Visit 2025\n\nWhen: Tuesday\, November 11\, 2025 to Friday\, November 14\, 2025\n\nWhere: Austin\, TX\n\nWho: We have expanded capacity to lead up to 100 business\, government\, nonprofit\, and education sectors leaders from Durham and the Triangle community at large\n\nWhy: To learn from the experiences of another similar-sized community\, better understand our own community assets\, and build relationships among each other to help us address our local challenges\n\nObjectives: The Inter-City Visit will continue focus on the following learning objectives and more:\n\n\n	Strengthening Economic\, Workforce Development\, and Education Strategies\n	Investing in Transportation and Infrastructure\n	Supporting Housing and Small Business Growth\n\n\nWHY AUSTIN:\n\n\n	\n	Austin is a primary competitor for tech jobs\, and a number of Tech businesses are located in both Raleigh-Durham\, and Austin. Including\, Apple\, Google\, ARM\, Nvidia\, and many others\n\n \n	\n	\n	We are almost the same size and population. (Austin's Metro area by square miles is only slightly smaller than the Raleigh-Durham Metro Area\, and Austin is 2.5 Million people versus our 2.4 Million people.)\n\n \n	\n	\n	Learn more about Austin's innovation hub and how it's using public-private partnerships effectively with tech investments and universities\n	\n\n\n \n\n\n	Austin's population has boomed even more than ours in the last 25 years. See how Austin is addressing housing issues with zoning/land-use code changes to expand affordability and sustainability\n\n\n \n\n\n	Keep Austin Weird vs. Keep Durham Disreputable: Find additional ways to lean into cultural identity and how it works well with businesses in the arts such as live festivals\, music/film industry opportunities\, or their cultural arts districts/hubs (SXSW\, Austin City Limits\, etc)\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nHave a question about the event?
