A Look at Public Policy
As you may know, the Durham County Commission recently authorized a ½ sales tax referendum for this fall to help pay for transit improvements in Durham County. Triangle Transit General Manager David King will be with us on Wednesday to share the various transit components found within the adopted Durham Bus and Rail Investment Plan.
About David
David King is the General Manager of Triangle Transit. David joined Triangle Transit in 2006 after 30 years at the NC Department of Transportation, having most recently served as Deputy Secretary for Transit – in charge of the department’s five multimodal divisions including Public Transportation and Rail.
In his role as Triangle Transit’s General Manager the agency has seen record ridership in its regional bus, vanpool, paratransit and shuttle services. Triangle Transit recently undertook management of the Durham Area Transit Authority for the City of Durham. King is also is a key player in efforts to expand local and regional bus service and plan for light rail and commuter rail through the Triangle Regional Transit Program .
He is also the Board Chair of Reconnecting America - which provides both the public and private sectors with an impartial, fact-based perspective on development-oriented transit and transit-oriented development, and seeks to assist regions and communities to build around transit and walking rather than solely around the automobile.
David holds an MBA from UNC, a BA from Davidson College and is a native of Lumberton.
