Jewelsmith Golden Era 50th Anniversary Ribbon Cutting
Get ready, Durham!!!
Fifty years of love, craft, and community deserve a proper celebration.
Join the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce as we cut the ribbon with Jewelsmith in honor of their Golden Era 50th Anniversary, a milestone that belongs as much to Durham as it does to the store itself.
This isn't just a ribbon cutting. It's a homecoming.
A Durham native, Linda McGill founded Jewelsmith with a vision rooted deeply in this city's spirit. Long before Durham became recognized as the creative, artist-driven hub it is today, Linda saw it coming. She believed this city had a soul, one that valued handcraft, originality, and the kind of beauty that can't be mass-produced. Jewelsmith isn’t just a jewelry store. It’s an expression of that belief. Though Linda has since passed, her legacy lives on in the most meaningful way possible, in the hands of the employees she trusted to carry it forward. This celebration is for her, for them, and for every customer who walked through that door and became part of the Jewelsmith family.
And yes, Wool E. Bull will be there. Durham's most beloved Bull is showing up to help us celebrate, because a 50-year Durham institution deserves nothing less.
Why You'll Want to Be There
Jewelsmith has been a quiet pillar of this community for fifty years, the place Durham turns to for engagement rings, heirlooms re-imagined, and one-of-a-kind custom pieces crafted with intention and care. What makes Jewelsmith truly special isn't just the craftsmanship. It's the relationship. Every piece begins with a conversation, and every customer becomes part of the story.
On April 17th at 10:30am, we're opening our doors wide to honor the past, celebrate the present and where we're headed, and welcome new faces into the fold. Mayor Leo Williams will be on hand to cut the ribbon a fitting tribute to a business that has grown alongside this city and helped shape the creative, community-centered Durham we know and love today.
Whether you're a longtime customer who remembers Linda, or someone curious about what it means to create something completely your own, this is your invitation. Come experience firsthand what it feels like to walk into a place where your jewelry story begins. There will be giveaways, great energy, and a showroom full of people who love this city as much as you do.
Come for the ribbon cutting. Stay for the memories. Leave with something golden.
