WGU Opens Major Office in the Triangle

Leaders from Western Governors University (WGU) and local dignitaries gathered at the GlenLake Office Park in Raleigh on June 23 to participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open a new 48,000-sq.-ft. office for the online nonprofit university.

WGU President Scott Pulsipher led the ribbon cutting after welcoming guests that included business leaders, local alumni and representatives from the City of Raleigh, Wake County, the North Carolina Community College System, NC TECH, North Carolina Economic Development Association, North Carolina Nurses Association and more. Special guests included former Lt. Gov. Dan Forest and Wake County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor.

The Raleigh office, located at 4300 Edwards Mill Road, is expected to house up to 300 WGU employees in the next three years. In addition to Regional Operations, staff functions at this location will include Procurement, Infrastructure and Operations, WGU Labs, Data and Security, Student Support Services, Program Development, Academic Delivery Technology, Decision Intelligence and Product Engineering.

WGU has already signed on to lease an additional 20,000 square feet in the GlenLake Three Building for occupancy in 2027.

“This will be our largest office outside of our headquarters in Salt Lake City, strengthening our ability to serve students, partners and collaborators across the country," said Pulsipher. “We look forward to partnering with Raleigh, the greater Triangle Region and state of North Carolina to advance our mission and change lives for the better.”

Institutionally accredited WGU is the nation’s leading competency-based university, and offers more than 140 bachelor’s, master’s and certificate programs in business, technology, healthcare and K-12 education. Earlier this year, the university conferred its 500,000th degree.

WGU has more than 5,900 current students and 10,900 graduates throughout all 100 counties in North Carolina. The university has awarded more than $8.8 million in scholarships to North Carolina Students. As a bridge to a cost-effective bachelor’s degree, WGU has transfer agreements with 38 of North Carolina’s 58 community colleges, including Wake Tech, Durham Tech, Johnston Community College and Fayetteville Tech.
